Prototype 1.7 RC2

We’ve just tagged Release Candidate 2 of Prototype 1.7, with the intent of putting out a final 1.7 release very soon.
In addition to the usual bug fixes, RC2 includes a late addition: the Element#purge method, used to dispose of an element (remove its event handlers and storage keys) before removing it from the page.
In addition, Element#update now performs a similar cleanup process on content that will be replaced via innerHTML. Both these additions should help keep memory usage down, especially for apps that create and destroy lots of DOM nodes.
Consult the CHANGELOG for further details.

Andrew, thanks for the update! Just a heads up that the download link refers to this as RC1, even though the linked file is RC2.
Thanks for the heads up, Vlad.
Updated.
Do you plan to release a minimized version?
Thanks
Element#purge sounds really nice thanks prototype…
Thank heaven! After not seeing any activity on the front page for nearly a year I was starting to worry that I’d have to start using jQuery (blech).
I like new layoyt class :) Big thanks for you work.
Same comment as Michael, i’m happy that prototype is updated. Jquery is good for dom but don’t extend pure javascript like prototype and is less object oriented.
the main thing I appreciate with jquery is the simplicity to apply events or properties to a set of elements instead of a single element. maybe you should consider improve prototype on that side, but I still prefer prototype.
thanks for this new release!
Awesome. It’ll be nice if a compressed version of Prototype and Scriptaculous were added to Google’s CDN.
Thanks for the update Andrew … appreciate the heads up….
Sarah
I like Prototypejs more than jQuery as it is user friendly. Hope for a UI supports in future like jQuery UI.

If you like prototype, and are looking for UI support, you should have a look at http://script.aculo.us/
Thanks to prototype and its contributors!
Do you have “demos” of that library ? Coding show does not show anything. First we want to see a result, then we look at the rest. thanks for answer. Pierre.
